Until the onset of COVID-19, for most of us the idea of global pandemic was something that existed only in books, movies, hypotheticals and our imaginations. Perhaps in our imaginations, the idea that so many regular parts of life would continue relatively unchanged in such a world did not even occur to us. And yet they do. We celebrate birthdays, we mark anniversaries, we love and laugh even in the midst of a world that feels upside-down.

Pandemic or no pandemic, babies are welcomed into the world with the same joy and excitement as ever before. And families want to document and remember the beauty and newness of those early newborn days just as keenly.

I had the heartwarming opportunity to do a number of newborn sessions over the summer to mark the love and happiness that a new baby brings to a family’s life. This was one of those sessions and it was a fantastic evening. I was lucky enough to photograph this new little baby on his 6 week birthday. Mom, dad, big sister, big brother, Grandma and Grandpa were all there to help make this a session full of love, fun, laughter and happiness. And those beautiful emotions turned the daily concerns of life during a pandemic into mere background noise. Love is a pretty powerful thing, I think.
