This fall I tried something new: taking school photos. While school photos might seem to be the exact opposite of the services I offer to families–that is, telling their unique story–I’d argue that given the right approach the two are not as different as they might initially seem. So many parents (me included!) love to commemorate each year that passes for their children by keeping and displaying each year’s school photos. And yet, as a mother and as a photographer, I don’t feel totally satisfied with the “typical” school photo. My children might look adorable in it, but it doesn’t capture much of their personality and it can feel somewhat generic. And so when I decided to take school photos for Preschool of the Arts, I knew I wanted the school photos that I produced to be a bit different. I wanted to produce authentic school photos for these kids and for this school that I love so much. I had an amazing time hanging out with and getting to know all the spirited and adorable kiddos that I met while taking the photos and I feel so proud to have provided parents with these photos that highlight the personalities of their children. I’ll be looking forward to this coming fall when I get to do it all again!
These are so so precious. You have done a great job of authentically capturing these children. You can literally hear their laughter.
