Back in July I held my annual summer adventure mini-sessions. I really can’t emphasize enough how much I love doing sessions like this and I think that each family that joined me that day had almost as much fun as I did. As one of the participants wrote to me afterward: “Thanks again for what was hands down our most fun family photo session!”
The premise of these sessions is simple: come hang out with me on the shore Lake Mendota and have fun playing in the water and sand and walking in the woods. And while you enjoy this beautiful time outside with your family, I will capture all the beauty and joy that I think being outside brings to almost everyone. I don’t ask kids (or grown-ups!) to pose or to sit still, my only direction for families is to relax and enjoy their time together and to do what feels natural to them. The result of these almost non-directions is that I’m able to capture truly authentic photos of families just being themselves and that is my ultimate goal as a family photographer.
Real is beautiful and I find such joy in showing that to the families I photograph. And while these photos show how this approach works for these particular mini-sessions, it’s the same approach that I bring to all my sessions. What could be better than having fun, enjoying the company of your family and having it all remembered for you? In my book, not much. If you and your family want to document your authentic, beautiful, real life, drop me a line! I’d love to help you capture this moment in time.
You absolutely captured the essence of summer here! Beautiful!
