Spring 2017 was a big season for us as a family. We left one home and struck out for another halfway across the country. We said goodbye to beautiful Point Roberts and greeted Madison, WI as our new home. We left the house where both our girls spent their first days on earth and we embraced a new home where we’ll write the next chapter in our family history. My husband began a new job in Madison, my big girl started at a new school and I could now say not that I’m a Vancouver photographer, but that I’m a Madison photographer. It still feels like an odd appellation as I certainly don’t feel anywhere near like I actually live here yet, but I’m excited to grow into this role as I become part of this community and hopefully get the opportunity to photograph the beautiful life stories of some of the wonderful families here. (Just in case you’re ready to learn more about celebrating your family’s legacy, I’d love to chat!)
So what’s a brand new Madison photographer to do as she tries to get to know her new city and meet other photographers in the area? Well, if you’re lucky enough to move at the beginning of May (and happen to be a member of the awesome online photography community, Clickin Moms) you join in your local Clickin Walk. This event is a chance for women photographers to get together, practice some street photography, explore your backyard and have fun and I’m so thrilled that I got to take part in mine. And so I found the first step of the answer to my question: a brand new Madison photographer should meet up with some wonderfully friendly, kind and talented local photographers, explore a few of the scenic spots in her new hometown and get excited about the opportunities that await her in this fabulous new spot.
