BLOG

February brought snow, some beautiful nascent spring sunshine, first haircuts and good times with friends and neighbors. It also continued to push me to think about my reasons for attempting to get that camera out daily and what these projects mean to me and why they feel important in my life and work. There were days in February when I felt so overwhelmed with the day-to-day tasks of caring for my family that I could not find the emotional wherewithal to even take my camera out its bag. And then there were days that made me feel so inspired to be remembering the sunshine, the silliness, the everyday. My picture taking, just like my life, really felt like a work in progress this month as I tried to fit these thoughts together into a coherent whole and to see something deeper in my practice than just the creation of a pretty photograph. A month ago I felt sure that I would sort of settle into an answer of what these projects would mean to me this year, but it turns out that I’m really no closer to any kind of certainty on that front. And perhaps that figuring out of the deeper meaning of these projects and their function in my life will turn out to be what the picture taking is really all about. And on that note, here are my favorites from my February.
