I’ve been slowly working through a backlog of sessions that I’d shot and delivered months ago, but am just now getting a chance to put up on the blog. And I’m so very happy to be able to share this session now. This family holds such a special place in my heart: mama was not only one of the members of my midwifery team for both of my pregnancies, but also our family doctor for all the years we lived in the area. I was lucky enough to be able to photograph them numerous times and absolutely loved documenting the growth of their beautiful family (and their adorable daughter!). I’m so sad that I won’t be able to photograph them regularly anymore as I’m now a Madison WI family photographer, but I’m helping to soothe that sadness with the hope that I’ll be able to squeeze in a session for them when I’m back in the PNW for my next visit.

On this particular morning we had a marvelous time: we hung out at their house for a bit, got ready to head to the park/beach, had a hilarious car ride from the house to the park, played by the water and at the park, enjoyed a coffee and a pastry and took advantage of the fabulous backdrop provided by this awesome locale. Though the backdrops in my photos will obviously be different from here on out, the content of them will, I hope, always be the same: a relaxed family, enjoying each other’s company and doing what makes them happy. And it is my enviable job as a Madison WI family photographer to capture that happiness, joy and genuine connection. The outfits might not exactly match, the light might not be that of the perfect sunset, but these kinds of documentary sessions are so much more than those imperfect details, they are part of your family’s legacy preserved.
