I am always excited (and pretty nervous!) before a family photo session. On the one hand I love spending time with all the awesome people I get to meet through the course of my work, but on the other I feel a huge responsibility to get it all right when I photograph a family’s life. I take the trust that a family places in me to help them remember their real life so seriously. I want to really show families just how beautiful and special their “regular” lives are.
And for this session, I felt those two sides of the emotion-coin even more distinctly. We had been planning to do this session for months and had had to reschedule it over and over as the pandemic hit and it became clear that it was here to stay. So when I was finally able to spend a morning photographing these wonderful people, I wanted it all to be exactly right.
I spent a super-fun few hours with them hanging out in their yard, scootering and biking on their street, walking to the park and just laughing and having fun. And I hope that I was able to highlight the importance and beauty in all that felt just normal to them to help them remember why the everyday stuff is actually really important.
