I’m always super excited when a client chooses to have a photo session done in the winter. No, there won’t be flowers or green leaves or bare feet in the grass. And there probably won’t be any golden hour light or too much time spent outside.
On the other hand, winter in Wisconsin is beautiful. The sky is impossibly blue and if you’re lucky there’s snow to play in and to make everything look so crisply clean. Being inside is super cozy and home becomes your nest of refuge from the chill of outdoors.
And this winter family session was all that and more. A kind and beautiful family, a lovely home, a sledding hill in the backyard and SO much fun–this session had it all. This family’s wonderful Saturday morning at home was right up my alley and so beautifully illustrated why I really do believe that documentary photography is so special. It was the last in-home session I shot before the Covid era and I have to say that looking back on it makes my heart yearn for the time when it will be safe and smart to head back into family’s homes to document the wonder and beauty of day-to-day life.
